Diamonds grew in popularity and though the wedding band is still traditionally made of gold, the engagement ring is what most women want and pine for. The solitaire has captured the heart of women and the men who woo them. Solitaires are usually larger stones and start from 0.25 cents or a quarter carat but the real solitaires are in the region of 3-7 carats and more.

Today diamonds are no longer an ambiguous investment. The grading of diamonds has been reduced to fine art and is easily determinable. There are several internationally renowned companies that grade and certify diamonds and diamond jewellery.
